Paul's background is in journalism. He has been presenter of NEW WORLDS (BBC Radio 4), SCIENCE IN ACTION and DISCOVERY (BBC World Service), and RECORD REVIEW (BBC Radio 3).

He presented Radio 4’s daily arts magazine KALEIDOSCOPE from its outset in 1973 until it closed in 1998. He was also the ‘voice’ of BBC2’s science programme HORIZON from 1970 to 1990.
